Satori is what Buddhist’s call “sudden enlightenment”. It’s what others call “flashes of insight”, “a moment of stillness,” or even when the world says “meow.”
My last moment of satori was 5 years ago on a local highway with the kid in the backseat and the wife beside me.
Last night it was just the kid and I except he was driving. The moment came without warning during this Alice in Chains song.
For a moment time stretched and there was just me and my adult son, driving through the night and listening to loud music together.
For all the worry, fear and self-doubt that comes with being a parent such moments are a blessing, needed assurance as your child explores independence in an increasingly insane world.
